Description
Kataraga a is one of the famous pilgrimage towns in Sri Lanka attracting Hindus, Buddhists & native Vedda people due to Lord Murugan (Skanda Kumara) temple there. Folklore has it that Lord Murugan has traveled to Deep down south of Sri Lanka & decided to reside there. Lord Murugan is famous to help his devotees & therefore very popular among local businessmen as their guardian deity. Kiri Vehera Buddhist temple is built somewhere in 1st century BCE & had been renovated & maintained for centuries by many kings. Today, it is a major attraction among the pilgrims to Kataragama.
